The only type of metal system used in low slope roofing is sheet metal panel because it is able to operate as an effective barrier to water. Sheet metal panel roof systems, generally, are designed to resist leakage at the joints and be sealed at the seams, an especially important feature in low slope roofs which often are susceptible to leakage.
Low slope sheet metal panels are less likely to degrade and withstand most elements. This means they have a long service life up to 40 years. Low slope sheet metal panels are lightweight and low maintenance, although it is essential that a positive roof slope of at least 2-inch or greater per foot is required with no areas of pooling water.
For the environmentally conscious, low slope sheet metal panel roofing systems are recyclable and often are made of 25 percent recycled products. As a result, low slope sheet metal panels are eligible for LEED credits awarded to buildings that use green construction materials and practices.
